Adding an HDD to a RAID 5/RAID 6 Volume

You can expand the storage capacity of the RAID 5/RAID 6 volume by adding a
Spare HDD to the RAID 5/RAID 6 volume. Please refer to the online Help on the
"Storage > Volume" page of the Web Management UI for detailed instructions.

Change Volume Type

If you have created a Basic, RAID 1 or RAID 5 volume, you could add a new
drive to the

Synology Disk Station

, and then click “Change” on the Volume page

to change the volume type. You have following options:

1. Change Basic to RAID 1

2. Change Basic to RAID 5

3. Change RAID 1 to RAID 5

4. Change RAID 5 to RAID 5+Spare

Supported on specific models only. Please refer to the product Specification table.
