filters and eight blocking disks, adjacent filters can be changed in 55 milliseconds with a
speed setting of 1. A correspondingly-equipped 32mm wheel may require a lower speed.

LOCAL key, the display’s second line will contain the active input source,
the wheel selected and the status of the shutter(s).
Figure 3-8. Status display screen after pressing LOCAL.
The above example indicates that both shutters are “OFF” (closed) and that Wheel and
Shutter “A” are selected for “MANUAL” control. Going to the LOCAL mode from either
REMOTE mode (parallel or serial) closes both shutters automatically. Once the MANUAL
input source has been selected, pressing the shutter (SHUTR) key will toggle (open/close) the
status of Shutter A. To control Wheel B and Shutter B, press the F2 key to select them as the
active components. The display will change from “MANUAL-A” to “MANUAL-B”. Pressing
the SHUTR key will now toggle (open/close) Shutter B. In general, the shutter status will
not change when going from LOCAL to ON LINE (to either SERIAL or PARALLEL control)
until a new shutter command is sent from the remote computer.

Error Detection and Recovery
The Lambda 10-2 contains two sensor systems that are used to monitor the actual position of
the filter wheel. After the controller sends the step sequence for a move to a new filter
position, it compares the output of these sensors with the expected position. If there is no
match, the error recovery sequence is started. First, the wheel is rotated until Filter 0 (zero)
