Appendix A: Hard Disk Error Messages
12. ECC Corrected Data Error — The ECC value
(explained above) read from the disk is not the same
value which was written to the disk; therefore, the
program assumes that the data is not correct. It,
then, attempts to correct the data, but the ECC value
is not corrected. In this situation, this message
appears.
13. Controller Has Failed — The program has issued a
diagnostic command to the controller, which has
failed; therefore, the controller has failed as well.
14. Seek Operation Failed — The program has issued
a seek command to the drive and this operation has
failed. A seek operation is the act of finding a
particular sector on the hard disk.
15. Attachment Failed to Respond — No response has
been received from the hard disk drive. This
message appears if an operation has already begun
and the hard disk does not respond, when it has
responded earlier.
16. Drive Not Ready — The program is trying to perform an
operation on the hard disk drive, and it has waited
beyond a preset specified time limit. This situation
is known as “timeout.”
17. Write Fault on Selected Drive — A ‘Write Fault’ has
occurred during the write operation on the hard disk.
