Chapter 3: Maintenance and Component Installation
Replacing System Fans
1. Use IPMI to determine which fan has failed, or open the chassis cover to determine
visually.
2. Turn off the system power and remove the chassis cover (refer to Section 3.1 to remove
power and 3.2 to remove the cover from the chassis.
3. Unplug the fan wiring from the serverboard.
4. Press the fan release tab to lift the failed fan from the chassis.
5. Place the new fan into the vacant space in the housing, making sure the arrows on the
top of the fan that indicate air direction point in the same direction as the arrows on the
other fans.
6. Power up the system and check that the fan is working properly before replacing the
chassis cover.
