8 MAINTENANCE
All maintenance operations (cleaning, any replacement of parts, etc…) must be carried out
when the fire is out and the stove is cold. Abrasive substances must not be used in any
circumstances.
8.1 Cleaning the device and smoke stack
When wood is burnt it produces tar and other organic substances which, together with the moisture released by the
wood, forms creosote.
If creosote has built up it must be removed in order to reduce the risk of fire in the smoke stack and to
improve heat output.
N.B. Spontaneous combustion of the creosote inside the smoke stack can cause serious damage to it and
to the structure of the building.
The connector pipes, and the smoke stack must be inspected at least once every two months while the stove is in
use to see whether creosote has formed or not
Under normal circumstances the combustion chamber, the connector pipes and the smoke stack should be
cleaned of creosote at least once a year (and more often if necessary).
If any doubts arise about maintenance or everyday use, get in touch with your supplier and consult the current
regulations.
8.2 Cleaning the ceramic cladding
The ceramic cladding of the stove must be cleaned with a soft, dry cloth before using detergents (even gentle
ones) with a wet cloth.
NEVER WET OR CLEAN THE CERAMIC WITH COLD WATER WHEN THE STOVE IS HOT AS THE SUDDEN
CHANGE IN TEMPERATURE COULD BREAK IT.
8.3 Cleaning metal parts
For clean painted metal stove parts, use a damp cloth wetted with water.
NEVER CLEAN THE PAINTED METAL PARTS WITH ALCOHOL, DILUENTS, BENZINE, VINEGAR OR OTHER
DEGREASING SUBSTANCES.
If these substances are used, Gruppo Piazzetta declines all responsibility for the damage caused.
Possible variations in the hue of metal parts can be attributed to an improper use of the heater.
8.4 Cleaning the glass
The glass in the door should be cleaned (when cold) with ammonia based, non-corrosive, degreasing agents such
as solvents.
If the glass is warm, it must be left open for as long as is required to cool it down before starting to clean it.
If the wood is not dry and causes the fire to burn very slowly, it is likely that tar will build up on the glass and this
will burn when the secondary air supply is open. If tar is allowed to accumulate over too long a time, it will be much
harder to remove.
Do not use any material which could scratch or spoil the glass, as scratches may develop into cracks or breaks.
8.5 Removal of the smoke deflector
When cleaning the stove, remember to romove the smoke deflector as well.
It is recommended that this operation is carried out by two people, as follows:
note the direction of and supports for the deflector;
raise the deflector at the front making it pivot on the back part
move it forward and lower it towards the firebed;
turning it, remove it from the stove;
then clean and remount it, working in the reverse order.
