Additional Regulating of Compartment Temperatures:
Details of Controlling the Variable Speed Evaporator Fan Motors
The evaporator fan motors are supplied with 12V DC at all times from the control board, with the neutral or ground
return. When high offset temperature is detected a command is sent to the evaporator fan motor to run at high-
speed, and the RPM is monitored. On some models, an evaporator fan will always run at high speed, while on oth-
ers a command will be sent to the fan after a specified time, or temperature to ramp down to low-speed. This will
vary by model. If the door (or a drawer on IW-30R only) is opened while an evaporator fan is operating, the micro-
processor will interrupt the 12V DC power to the fan.
NOTE:
• During Sabbath Mode the lighting system is lowered to 30% brightness and the 12V DC supplied to the evaporator
fan cannot be interrupted, thus the evaporator fan may be observed running when the door is open.
• If improper RPM signals are detected from the evaporator fan, the appropriate fault code will be logged and the
severity of the error will be treated as a 1 or 2, low level.
Monitor and Control Refrigerator Fan-Assisted, Off-Cycle Defrost
Temperature signals from the refrigerator compartment and evaporator thermistors are observed by the microproces-
sor. During the off cycle defrost, if the refrigerator compartment temperature reaches high offset (calling for cooling)
before the evaporator temperature rises to 38-44°F (3-7°C), no power will be supplied to the compressor, but the
evaporator fan will be switched ON. Only after the evaporator temperature reaches 38-44°F (3-7°C) will the com-
pressor be energized.
NOTES:
• If a compartment thermistor is faulty, the compressor defaults to X minutes ON, X minutes OFF cycling (cycle
times vary by unit). The appropriate error code is logged and the wrench and error code are splashed on the LCD
for ten (10) seconds to the user upon door opening, but there is no audible error chime.
• If an evaporator thermistor is faulty, the compressor will not energize until compartment air temperature exceeds
high offset by 3°F/C. The appropriate error code is logged and the wrench and error code are splashed on the
LCD for ten (10) seconds to the user upon door opening, but there is no audible error chime.
• If in Sabbath Mode, the compartment thermistor still controls compressor operation, except that when high offset is
reached, there is a random 15 to 25 second delay before the cooling cycle is started.
Monitor Compressor Run Duration, Displays If Service is Needed
The microprocessor observes the changing state of the compressor relays on the control board to determine the
length of compressor run time. Other than during initial pull down, if a compressor runs 100% (6 hours), ten (10)
consecutive times, defrost is initiated, the
appropriate error code is logged and the wrench and error code are dis-
played steady on the LCD
.
NOTES:
• If the unit is ever switched OFF then back ON, compressors will not energize for at least three (3) minutes. This
minimum OFF time is used to protect the compressor and its electricals.
• To clear fault indicators and Fault Codes the problem must be corrected, then clear the faults at the service
options screen on the UIM. Failure to clear Fault Codes will result in the highest priority fault indicator reappearing
in the LCD when the unit is switched back ON.
