5.2.2 Dirt on the emitter needle (6
d) reduces the device’s performance. To clean the needle, the nozzle (6) must
be fully unscrewed. The emitter needle and the inside of the individual parts of the nozzle (6a to 6c) can be
cleaned with a nylon brush (do not use a wire brush!) or a cotton bud/Q-tip and a little alcohol or isopropyl
alcohol.
ATTENTION:
Release the lock bolt, before you unscrew the nozzle (6)
5.2.3 The emitter needle is very sensitive. To keep it clean, make sure that you do not touch it with your hand or
fingers. Avoid physical damage. After cleaning reassemble the nozzle, refit it on the device and tighten the
lock bolt for the fixation of the nozzle (6).
For easy, fast and efficient cleaning of emitter needles, use the Statech Cleaning cartridges for ionizing
needles
(see 9.4)

Testing functional efficiency
Specially in the electronics industry periodic testing, in particular of the ion balance, is essential.
The device’s function can be tested in two ways:
5.3.1 With the electrostatics fieldmeter Statiron DZ-4 (see 9.1)
Discharging:
1. Charge a plastic object by rubbing it with a dry cloth.
2. With the DZ-4 measure the static charge of the plastic object.
3. Hold the object into the ionizer gun
’s air stream for about two seconds.
4. Measure the object’s charge again with the DZ-4. The reading should not exceed ±50 V.)
Ion balance:
1. Fit the detachable electrode to the DZ-4, ground it and adjust the zero point.
2. With the electrode in front, hold the DZ-4
into the ionizer’s air stream at a distance of 300 mm from the
ionizer gun.
3. The fieldmeter’s display should not indicate more than ±50 V.
5.3.2 With charged-plate monitor Statiron DP (see 9.2)
The charged-plate monitor (CPM) has been developed specially for efficient testing of ionizers. It takes
automatic, standards-compliant discharging time (both positive and negative) and ion balance readings at the
press of a button. The CPM is specially recommended if several ionizers are being used.
If the readings exceed the highest permissible values, send your ionizer to an authorized SSD service
center for inspection and recalibration.
