Remove/Replace Gas piston for foot rest
CAUTION
Note: The foot rest comes in two versions, patients left or patient’s right. On pictures here the patients
left foot rest is featured. The patients right foot rest is the same but reversed.
Ref. To do, remove: Required/tools/etc.
1 Raise the foot rest so it’s horizontal (If possible). Tools required: 17mm
wrench, small flat
screwdriver.
2 Remove the foot rest from the table and place on a work
bench. Be careful not to damage the paint while working on the
foot rest.
3 Loosen the stop nut which hold the release handle assembly to
the gas piston. See views, Ref A
4 Use a small flat screwdriver and carefully bend one of the Star-
lock retainer away from the upper axle that holds the release
handle assembly. Then push out the axle.
Warning!
If gas piston release mechanism is pushed down the gas spring
will expand with a force of 600N.

5 Also remove one of the Starlock retainer from lower axle and
push the axle out. Make sure not to lose the plastic spacers.
6 On gas piston, note how far the release handle assembly is
threaded down onto the top of the old gas piston. Then loosen
the assembly and move it to the replacement gas piston.
Thread it down the same distance as on old gas piston together
with locking nut.
To do, replace:
1 Mount the replacement gas piston into the lower mounting
point, push axle in, mount plastic spacers and press Starlock
retainer back on again.
2 Also mount the replacement gas piston into the upper mount-
ing point (make sure release handle points the right direction),
push axle in but wait with installing the Starlock retainer back
on again.

3 Now carefully (as upper axle isn’t locked in place) install the
foot rest on the table and test if release handle releases the
foot rest when pushed. It should release when parallel to the
gas piston.

4 If foot rest doesn’t release, remove from table and pull upper
axle out and thread the release handle mechanism down a few
turns on gas piston then test again.
If foot rest is released all the time, the release handles mecha-
nism need to be threaded up a few turns.
5 Adjust until handle releases and locks the foot rest properly,
then tighten locking nut and press Starlock retainer back on
the upper axle.
6 Perform test according to preventive maintenance instruction.
