Fuselage Continued
21.
Turn the fuselage up-side-down. Fit and tack glue former F19 to the underside of F18,
engaging the tabs along the
top
of F19 with the slots mid-way back on F18.
22.
Bring the fuselage sides together, engaging the tabs along the
top
edge of the fuselage
sides with the notches along the edges of F18, and the tabs on the side of F19 with the
slots in the fuselage side. Tack glue F18 and F19 to the fuselage sides.
Do not final bond
at this time.
23.
Assembly the fuselage bottom F20 from parts F20a and F20b, and bond with thin CA.
Note: The large balsa knock-out in F20a may remain within the part and can later be
removed for additional access beneath the radio compartment (For example, to provide an
area of alternate mounting for the battery).
24.
Fit F20 to the
bottom
of the fuselage, engaging the tabs on F20 with the notches along the
bottom
edge of the fuselage sides, tack glueing as you go. The forward end of F20 will rest
on F10 of the landing gear pocket, but will not cover the slot. Ensure that no glue enters the
slot.
25.
View the fuselage from the rear and check for twists. If a twist is detected, hold the
fuselage at F4 and gently twist it in the opposite direction until it is straight. Don’t be
concerned if the tack glued spots “pop” during this procedure - they will still hold. When you
are satisfied that the fuselage is straight and true, final bond F18, F19, and F20 to the
fuselage sides. (no illustration)
26.
Fit and bond part F21 to the bottom of the fuselage between F3 and the landing gear
pocket. Ensure that the slot in the landing gear pocket is not obstructed, and that no glue
enters the slot.
Nose
27.
Fit nose block part F22 to the opening in former F3, aligning the inner cut-out with the
etched marks on part F15. Wick thin CA around the edges of F22, bonding it to F15 and
former F3.
28.
Fit part F23 to the opening, aligning the inner edges of the cutout with that in F22. F23 is
slightly shorter than F22, and the outer front edges will not align. Wick CA between parts
and around the edges to bond.
Tip: part F22 and F23 feature two 1/8 in. alignment holes to
assist with location of the part. Use a scrap 1/8 in. dowel or drill bit(s) as alignment jigs
through the holes int the parts.
29.
Lay part F24 over F23, aligning the inner edges of the cut-out with that of F23. Again, F24
is slightly shorter than F23, and the outer front edges will not align. Wick CA between parts
and around the edges to bond.
Tip: part F23 and F24 feature two 1/8 in. alignment holes to
assist with location of the part. Use a scrap 1/8 in. dowel or drill bit(s) as alignment jigs
through the holes int the parts.
