Fuselage Continued
8.
In the same manner, fit ply part F9 behind F8.
Do not bond.
9.
Fit ply par F10 behind F9 to complete the landing gear pocket.
Do not bond.
10.
Test fit the fuselage side F11 to the
left
side of the fuselage to cover F5, engaging the tabs
on parts F2, F3, and F4. Once satisfied with the fit, remove F11 and coat surfaces to be
bonded (between F11 and F5) with a thin layer of slow set (medium or thick) CA glue.
Return F11 to assembly this time allowing the glue to bond the parts together.
Ensure that
no glue enters the landing gear pocket itself!
Motor Mount
11.
Lay ply part F12 on the table with the etched side marked “
bottom
” facing
up
.
(This is
critical, as the orientation of F12 will determine the correct amount of offset - or ‘right thrust -
of the motor needed for proper flight.)
Fit and tack glue ply parts F13 and F14 to F12.
Ensure that F13 and F14 are fitted to the side of F12 marked ”
bottom
”.
12.
Fit and tack glue balsa part F15 to the tabs on F13 and F14. Ensure that the side of F15
marked “
bottom
” is facing
up
.
13.
Turn the assembly
right-side-up
, with F12 on
top
, and fit the assembly to the
front
of former
F3. Ensure that the assembly is fully seated against F3, with no gaps, then final bond the
motor mount assembly together and to F3 with thin CA.
Mount the Motor
Prior to completing the following motor mount sequence, you should test your motor and receiver
for proper function. Though rare... both new and recently removed/reclaimed used motors may
not function properly. NOTHING is worse than gluing a bad motor in your model only to have to
cut into your finished product and replace the defect. Additionally, no replacement support can
be provided for a DOA motor if you’ve modified and glued the motor within your model.
TEST YOUR MOTOR AND RECEIVER NOW! then proceed with your build using ONLY a known
good motor.
It is exceedingly important that you are careful NOT to allow glue on the gear train or within the
motor. When working with glue around the motor use extreme caution and ALWAYS use fine
tipped glue tips [PAAPT21] fit to the nozzle on your glue bottle. Bonding your gears, rendering
them inoperable, will indeed ruin your day!
14.
Now, snap off the four mounting spikes on the tabs of the motor [PKZ3624], and sand the
tabs smooth.
