STEP 5
ENGINE OIL AND TRANSMISSION FLUID
NOTE: Engine oil and transmission fluid must be
checked before operation. Failure to do so may
result in serious equipment damage.
1.
Fill engine crankcase to proper level. Refer to
Engine Owner’s Manual for capacity and oil
specifications. Check level with dipstick.
2.
Check transmission fluid level. Bring to full level as
necessary using MOBILFLUID 424 or equivalent.
NOTE: Check with dipstick fully threaded to obtain
accurate reading.
STEP 6
CONNECT BATTERY
IMPORTANT NOTE: The battery in this machine is
maintenance-free. It has been filled to the proper
level with acid and is sealed. Do not attempt to
open the battery.
1.
Check date printed on battery label. (Battery is
located in the compartment under the operator’s
seat; date is located near positive terminal.)
2.
If battery is put in service after date shown, remove
battery from battery tray by removing hardware
securing battery retaining strap to unit and lifting
battery out. See Figure 1.4. Charge for a minimum
of 1 hour at 6-10 amps.
NOTE:
When charging, place battery on a level
non-concrete surface in a well ventilated area away
from sparks and flame. Always be sure to connect
battery charger to battery terminals correctly: RED
to positive (+) terminal, BLACK to negative (-).
3.
After charging (if needed), place battery back into
battery tray (positive terminal toward front of
machine) and replace battery retaining strap. Be
sure to tighten strap hardware securely.
4.
Attach battery cables to battery terminals as shown
in Figure 1.4. Connect positive (
+
) cables (red) first,
from wiring harness to the positive terminal (
+
) on
battery and secure with hardware provided in
hardware bag. Connect negative (
-
) cables (black)
last, to negative terminal (
-
) on battery and secure.
Apply a small amount of grease over terminals to
prevent corrosion. Slip terminal cover on positive
(+) cable over terminal.
FIGURE 1.4
WARNING
Be sure to shield positive terminal with Terminal
Cover located on Positive Battery Cable. This
prevents metal from touching the positive terminal,
which could cause sparks.
STEP 7
INSTALL STEERING WHEEL
NOTE: Before installation, make sure that the front tires
are aligned perfectly straight.
1.
Slide plastic shaft cover fully onto steering shaft.
2.
Orient steering wheel as shown in Figure 1.5, and
align splines in steering wheel hub with splines in
upper part of steering shaft. Slip wheel down onto
shaft until fully seated.
3.
Install washer and hex nut onto threaded end of
shaft. Torque to 50-70 ft-lbs.
4.
Install plastic cover in center of steering wheel.
