How can I setup a WDS link with another wireless
Access Point?
Before configuring the SMCWBR14S-N4 to work with WDS to wirelessly connect to a remote
Access Point/Router, please check the following recommendations:

All units in a WDS wireless network must be configured with the same SSID and use
the same radio channel.
♦
When configuring WDS links, it is recommended to set up fixed IP addresses for all
relevant Access Points/ Repeaters/ Routers.
♦
Up to four WDS links can be specified for each unit in the WDS network.
♦
There are three modes to enable WDS in your router: Lazy, Bridge and Repeater
mode. When setting your router in WDS Lazy mode, the remote Access Point/Router
must be set to Bridge or Repeater mode. In the Bridge and Repeater mode it will be
necessary to manually enter the MAC addresses of the devices connected to them. In
the Lazy mode this information does not need to be entered manually. It will be
received automatically from the Bridge or Repeater device.

If you still have doubts about which mode you need, use Repeater Mode for all your devices.
Let’s follow the example of configuring a WDS link like this:

- AP2 Mac address: 00:E0:FF:81:D3:2B
- SMCWBR14S-N4 MAC address: (You can find the MAC address of your device in the submenu
Administration/System Status in the LAN Configuration table). You will need it to configure
the AP2.
Make sure your SMCWBR14S-N4 is configured with the default wireless settings in the
submenus Wireless Settings/Basic and Wireless Settings/Security. After that go to the
submenu Wireless Settings/WDS, enable the WDS mode (Lazy, Bridge or Repeater) and enter
the encryption and AP2 MAC address information.
