Umbilical Operation
When operating with an umbilical system it is necessary to control the pump speed
when the applicators inlet valve is closed. When turning at headlands – if applicator
inlet valve is to be closed it is necessary to reduce the pump RPM to a fast idle
speed gradually as the valve is to be closed. On completing the turn valve is opened
and the pump RPM can be increased gradually back to the required operating
speed.
Never disengage the tractor PTO when the pump is under load, and at operating
speed – this will cause a pressure shock in the pump and pipe line which can
cause severe damage. Always reduce tractor PTO speed before disengaging
PTO.
Do not operate the pump for any length of time with the outlet blocked or closed –
this will cause recirculation damage to the pump, along with a rapid build up of heat
in the liquid trapped in the pump leading to premature seal failure.
