DIE GRINDER SAFETY

Sioux power tools may contain chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer, birth defects, or other reproductive harm.

Tools should be inspected regularly to verify that all original markings and labels are present and legible. Contact Sioux Tools to obtain

replacement labels when necessary.
Die grinders can cause flying particles.

Proper eye protection must be worn at all times by tool user and bystanders.

Flying particles can cause eye injury.

Power tools generate noise.

Ear protection must be worn when tool noise level exceeds 85 dBA. We also recommend that ear protection be worn when the

tool noise level is below 85 dBA. See the tool’s information sheet for the noise level.  Appropriate controls to reduce the risk may

include actions such as damping materials to prevent work pieces from “ringing”.

Always ensure that the muffler material is in the die grinder.

Prolonged exposure to noise can cause hearing loss.

Power tools vibrate.

Excessive vibration can cause injury. If numbness, tingling, pain or whitening of the skin occurs, stop using tool and consult a

physician. See the tool’s information sheet for the vibration level. Support the weight of the tool in a stand or balancer whenever

possible.  Hold the tool with a light but secure grip.  Always hold tightly enough to counteract reaction forces but know that the

risks due to vibration are greater when the grip force is higher. Wear warm clothing when working in cold conditions.  Keep your

hands warm and dry.  Stop using the grinder if you experience numbness, tingling, pain or whitening of the skin and contact a

physician.  Maintain he grinder as recommended to prevent an increase in vibration levels.  Replace consumables to prevent an

unnecessary increase in vibration levels.  Improper or damaged inserted tools can cause excessive vibration.

Prolonged exposure to vibration can cause injury

.

Using this tool can cause the operator to experience discomfort in the hands, arms, shoulders, neck, and other place.

In order to help prevent this, the operator should find comfortable working positions that maintains secure grip and footing.

If the operator experiences pain, throbbing, aching, tingling, numbness, burning, or stiffness they should contact both the

employer and a physician.

Rotating grinding wheels can cause cuts and abrasions.

Keep hands and other body parts away from grinding wheels to prevent cutting or pinching. Wear protective clothing and gloves to

protect hands. Operators and maintenance personnel should be physically able to handle the bulk, weight and power of the tool.

Contact with rotating grinding wheels can cause injury.

Die grinders present a risk of entanglement.

Keep loose hair away from power tools and accessories. Keep hands away from moving parts of the tool and accessories. Do

not wear jewelry, loose clothing, or neckwear around power tools. Keep work area clear of cleaning rags and all items that could

become entangled with the tool.  When using the tool overhead, wear a helmet.

Entanglements can cause injuries.

Grinding operations creates dust.

Ensure that that sparks and debris do not create a hazard.  Do not breathe grinding dust. Use approved mask. Risk assessment should

include the potential to disturb existing dust.  Direct the exhaust so as to minimize disturbance of dust in a dust-filled environment.

Working with certain materials creates emission of dust and fumes which can cause a potentially explosive environment. Consider

dust created by tool and existing dust that can be disturbed by tool.  Operate and maintain the die grinder as recommended in the

instructions, to minimize dust or fume emissions.  Direct die grinder exhaust to minimize dust disturbance.  Control dust at the point

of emission.  All integral features or accessories for the collection, extraction or suppression of airborne dust or fumes should be

correctly used and maintained in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.  Select, maintain and replace the consumable/

inserted tool as recommended in the instructions, to prevent an unnecessary increase in dust or fumes. Proceed with care in

unfamiliar surroundings.  Ensure work area is free from electrical cables, gas pipes and other hazards.

Breathing grinding dust can cause injury.

Slips, trips, and falls are major causes of workplace injury.

Be aware that the exhaust from this tool can cause slippery surfaces and the air hose can present a trip hazards.

Proceed with care in unfamiliar surroundings as there can be hidden hazards.

This tool is not insulated for contact with electric power sources

.

Do not use near live electric circuits. When drilling into walls, be aware that they may have hidden electric wires.
