Transponder

Satellite frequency. Several digital programmes can be
broadcast simultaneously on a transponder.

VCR

Abbreviation for Video Cassette Recorder.

YUV (YPbPr)

YUV is a signal formed by one brightness (Y) and two colour
difference signals (UV). This signal is transmitted over three
individual cables.

Timeshift

Staggered TV watching. You have the option of pausing the
current broadcast by using the Pause button (32) and
resume watching at a later time. A background recording on
the hard disk is started.

Swap
function

Changing between the current and the last watched channel
(LAST key).

USALS

Universal Satellite Automatic Location System. This allows
automatic setting for all DiSEqC 1.2 Motors. The new
calculation model allows the positioning of satellites in orbit
with a precision of more than 0.1 degrees.

SCPC/MCPC

Terms from the satellite transmission technology.
SCPC means that a separate transmission frequency is
required per program signal.

Advantage: Several individual programmes from various
geographical signal sources can be transmitted
simultaneously on one satellite transmission channel
(trans downlink), without having to create one
package first. Disadvantage: The frequency-economy of this
method is low.
MCPC means: Several programmes are first nested together
on one earth station (Multiplex) and then broadcast over a
carrier frequency (Carrier). The disadvantage is that the
programmes from various geographical sources (feeders)
must be carried together on the earth station. The advantage
is that the frequency economy of the Multiplex method is
very high.

SDTV

Standard Digital Television is the norm and quality standard
for Digital TV. As opposed to HDTV, the resolution of SDTV
is rather comparable to PAL. They are 704 x 480 and 640 x
480 pixels and image formats of 3:4 and 16:9.
