10. Fault finding
Mains voltages are used to power the DC power supplies. Care should be
taken to ensure all sources of mains voltages are isolated before working
on the equipment.
Fault
Item to check / possible fault
Camera Status LED
off, no response
from camera
Check that the camera has D.C. supplied within the range specified
in Appendix - Technical Specification
No network
connection to
camera
Possibly caused by incorrect network settings / damaged Ethernet
cabling.
Check cabling / External Ethernet switch status LED (e.g. to indicate
a ‘live’ Ethernet port)
Try communicating using default camera address (see section
6.8.1.4)
Try using Wireshark (Freeware) or similar network analysis tool if
Ethernet address is unknown to see which address camera is using
In rare cases it is possible the camera may revert to DHCP, try
powering the camera whilst connected to a DHCP server (ideally
with a limited or single address range) and then ping on the
possibly assigned address / addresses.
No data delivered to
Instation when using
SimpleUploader
Check Server Settings are correct under Remote FileSystem menu
Check that the CIFS SMB type is set V2.0 if using Windows
Check Instation Server Folder permissions are correct
Check Firewall at Instation is not blocking communications
GPS Fault / Time
fault
Possibly caused by obstruction resulting in low GPS coverage at
camera location. Select
Satellite Status, expand the number of
rows visible. For a good signal level the
Signal to Noise Ratio
column would be expected to have several entries around the value
of 30. A low signal can only be rectified by relocating the camera to
clear the obstruction.
Poor retro-reflection
from number plate
Poor camera alignment
Incorrect IR illuminator settings, check that the default flash power
and duration are set (refer to the Sicore II Operating Instructions
Handbook (Ref para. 1.3))
IR illuminator failure
Dirt on camera lens
