When switched on, the input solenoid valve and the RO pump deliver feed water to the RO module. Type III
water is produced by the prefiltration and reverse osmosis module and is stored in the tank. The Type III
water quality (conductivity measurement Q1) is displayed on the system monitor during production. Yield
is improved by allowing part of the concentrate to flow back to the RO module; the rest flows via a restricted
pipe to the waste water outlet. Type III water is extracted from the storage tank via the tube equipped with a
ball cock. A pressure-relief valve (regulator) can regulate the pressure of the feed water if too high.

The circulation pump delivers product water from the storage tank via a UV oxidizer (LaboStar 7 TWF UV)
and a polisher module to the dispenser. The water circulates in the system when no water is being
collected.

The UV oxidizer creates free hydroxyl radicals (OH

) that oxidize organic components in the water. The
polisher module is filled with ultrapure activated carbon and ion exchange resin of the highest
semiconductor quality. The activated carbon filters organic components and remaining particles out of the
water. The ion exchange resin removes residual salts from the water. The quality of the product water in the
circulation loop is continuously monitored via conductivity measurement cell Q2. Water temperature is
also monitored.

The product water is collected via a dispenser. Small amounts of water are tapped off by applying gentle
pressure to the valve opener. For larger quantities of water, the dispenser valve is opened to the continuous
flow position. If no water is being collected, it will circulate in the product water loop in order to maintain the
highest level of product water quality. The sterile filter fitted to the dispenser has a 0.2 µm pore filter that
prevents contamination of the system and filters bacteria out of the water.
