Star Topology (Compatibility Mode)
You can cascade several mini star couplers in a star topology and thus operate additional addressable protec-
tion devices. This star topology can also be extended by an RS485 bus topology using appropriate converters
(see Manual: RS485 Fiber-optic Converter for Asynchronous Protocols to 115 kBd (1-Channel) – 7XV5650).
Figure 3-1 shows the permanent remote connection of the protection device via optical fibers. You can
connect the DIGSI cable directly to the RS232 interface (D-sub socket, no RJ45) of the mini star coupler during
commissioning. RTU, SCADA, or DIGSI 4 applications can be implemented using this surface mounting.

NOTE
The FO1 channel and the remote connection are switched off, provided that the DIGSI cable is connected
to the RS232 interface of the mini star coupler.
The FO1 or RS232 channels are master channels. The FO2 to FO5 channels are slave channels for connecting
protection devices.

NOTE
You must not connect any protection devices (slaves) to the FO1 (T1/R1) channel. The FO1 channel (T1/R1)
is used only to connect the network control center.
