B 6.1 Fault table
The following chart lists general faults due to mechanical factors.
Bearing faults are dealt with in the relevant supplementary instruc-
tions for bearing.
MECHANICAL FAULTS:
– rubbing noise
– exessive temperature
– radial oscillation
– axiale oscillation
POSSIBLE CAUSE
REMEDIES
1)
– revolving parts rubbing ......................................... Ascertain cause, re-align
– air supply obstructed, filter dirty, .......................... Check air ducts, clean filter, change fan
wrong direction of rotation
– insufficient cooler capacity ................................... Clean cooler and air ducts. Vent air/water cooler.
Check water supply
– rotor unbalanced ................................................... Uncouple rotor and rebalance
– rotor out of true, shaft distored ............................ Discuss with factory
– pour alignment ...................................................... Re-align machine set, check coupling
2)
– unbalace in coupled machine .............................. Rebalance coupled machine
– Impulses from coupled machine .......................... Examine coupled machine
– interference from gearing ...................................... Check gearing
– Resonance with foundation .................................. Stiffen foundation after consulting factory
– changes in foundation .......................................... Asertain causes of changes and eliminate.
Re-align machine
ELECTRICAL FAULTS:
– Motor fails to start
– Motor accelerates reluctantly
– humming noise during start-up
– humming noise during operation
– humming noise in rhythm of double slip frequency
– excessiv temperature during no-load running
– excessiv temperature when running under load
– individual winding sections overheat
POSSIBLE CAUSES
REMEDIES
1)
– overload ................................................................. Reduce loading
– one supply phase open-ciruited ........................... Check switchgear and supply circuit
– one supply phase open-ciruited after ................... Check switchgear and supply circuit
switching on
– low system voltage, high frequency ..................... Correct system conditions
– high system voltage, low frequency ..................... Correct system conditions
– stator winding incorrectly connected ................... Check winding connections
– inter-turn or phase short circuit in stator winding .. Measure winding resistance and insulation resistance;
repair after consulting factory
– Poor soldered connection on cage winding ........ Repair after manufactorer

1)
In addition to rectifying the cause of the fault (in accordance with
measures listed under remedies), it may also be necessary to
remedy the faults that have occurred on the machine itself (e.g.
skimming the commutator, etc.)
2)
Check for pour alignment when hot.
