Note: 2
For connecting LANs, use UTP Category-5 cables.
UTP (Unshielded Twisted Pair) cables consist of four pairs of un-
shielded copper wires twisted around each other and, bundled with
resin and coated into a single line. UTP cabling prevents the entrance
or discharge of electromagnetic noise from or into peripheral circum-
stances. Cat-5 (Category-5) cables are a popular type of LAN cable
that is used for connecting network equipment and can be used at
speeds up to 100 Mbps. UTP cables are widely used for both
10BASE-T and 100BASE-TX interface standards.
Cat-5 cable connectors are 8-pin (RJ45) modular jacks that meet
category standards. This type of modular jack meets transmission
performance standards including EIAS/TIA/TBS40 and allows a high-
speed communication of up to 100 Mbps.
The maximum length of Cat-5 cables connecting network equipment
is set to 100m depending upon attenuation of waveforms and delay
times.
