Method of Teaching

Use

Blackline Masters 10.1

and

to create overheads or handouts for using

the SOLVER in applications with the area of a circular sector. Demonstrate the

steps to prepare the calculator for use with the SOLVER, and emphasize the fact

that the central angle in the formula for the area of a sector of a circle must be

in radians, not degrees. Encourage students to give units with all answers.

Next, use

Blackline Master 10.3

to create a worksheet for finding the area of a

circular sector. Encourage students to explore all three techniques (Equation,

Newton, and Graphic) available in the SOLVER so they will have experience
