• Observe a maximum assembly height of 6 m
. For higher ceilings, we recommend that you
install several detectors at different levels.
• Observe a minimum distance of 4 m from open
fireplaces and ovens, etc.
Use
A confirmation beep can be heard each time the button
is pressed.
The button
(Fig. 5.2)
has several functions:
• Mutes the alarm signal for 10 minutes if pressed briefly
(for max. 2 seconds) while the alarm is being emitted,
or prevents an alarm from being triggered. During this
period of 10 minutes, a short beep (reminder signal)
will be emitted approx. every 35 seconds.
• Mutes a fault signal for 12 hours if pressed briefly (for
max. 2 seconds)
• Detector's test function by pressing and holding (for at
least 3 seconds) until a loud, intermittent alarm signal
can be heard
• Reset by activating the test function (press and hold the
button for at least 3 seconds until a loud, intermittent
alarm signal can be heard) or remove the detector from
its base for 10 seconds.
Exception: it is not possible to reset a fault signal
indicating an empty battery.
Test/Maintenance
During the test function, the detector is tested according
to DIN EN 14604: battery functionality test, electronic
smoke chamber test, electronics test, etc. A test should
be performed at least once a year according to current
local guidelines for smoke alarms (in Germany: DIN
14676). To do this, press the test button
(Fig. 5.2)
for
at least 3 seconds until a loud, intermittent alarm signal
(approx. 85 dB/3m) can be heard. When necessary
(usually about once a year), wipe the device with a clean,
dry cloth and thoroughly clean the outside with a vacuum
cleaner. Ensure that no objects within a circumference
of 0.5 m around the device can impede the entrance of
smoke into the detector. If this is the case, review the
installation's position and if necessary reposition the
device or remove the objects.
The detector automatically performs a self-test. This
checks the electronics, voltage, battery internal resistance
and smoke chamber operation, etc. The device's
sensitivity is adjusted according to the smoke chamber's
pollution class. The red LED
(Fig. 5.2)
flashes briefly
approx. every 35 seconds to indicate correct operation
and operability.
However, if subject to mechanical damage or if the fault
indication cannot be reset, the smoke detector should be
replaced. It must replaced in any case 10 years at the
latest after first activation. It is not possible to change
the battery.
Note
If exposed to extensive amounts of dust or
steam, for example, the detector may trigger
the alarm.
