SPECIAL PROCEDURE
Engine Overheating
If the monitoring beeper continuously
sounds,
stop engines immediately
.
Perform the
Jet Pump Water Intake
and Impeller Cleaning procedure
in
this section.
Flush cooling system, refer to POST
OPERATION CARE.
If engines still overheat, refer to an au-
thorized dealer for servicing.
Jet Pump Water Intake
and Impeller Cleaning
Weeds, shells or debris can get caught
on the intake grates, drive shafts and/
or impellers. A clogged water intake
may cause troubles such as:
1.
Cavitation:
Engine speed is high
but jet boat moves slowly due to re-
duced jet thrust;
jet pump compo-
nents may be damaged.
2.
Overheating:
Since the jet pump
operation controls the flow of water
to cool the engine, a clogged intake
will cause the engine to overheat
and damage engine internal com-
ponents.
The clogged area can be cleaned as
follows:
In-water cleaning:
Pull safety lanyard
to stop engines. Let the boat stop by
itself then pull the weedless system
lever (refer to POST OPERATION
CARE). This will lower the water in-
take grates. Wait a while to allow
weeds or other debris to escape from
grates. Thereafter, fully push whee-
dles system lever and start engines. It
may be necessary to repeat the proce-
dure.
In severe conditions if the above meth-
od does not work, the following can
be performed:
– With engines running, put shift le-
ver in reverse position and vary
throttles quickly several times.
– Retry boat.
Most of the time, debris will escape
from the propulsion systems.
Out of water cleaning:
If the systems
are still clogged, shut off the engines
by removing the safety lanyard.
Pull the weedles system lever to low-
er the water intake grates. From un-
derneath boat, manually clean each
water intake area. If the systems are
still clogged, refer to an authorized
dealer for servicing.
If the jet pumps can not be easily
cleared of debris, the jet boat should
be returned to the trailer or to a boat
lift.
-
CAUTION
Operating the jet boat with the
water intake grate in lower po-
sition will cause damage to
the weedless system.
◆
WARNING
Always remove safety lanyard
from post to prevent accidental
engine starting before cleaning
the jet pump area.
