anchor and motor up to the anchor as the line is
retrieved to relieve the load on the windlass. Once
the anchor is retrieved, independently secure the
anchor to the chain binder to prevent it from being
accidentally released. This is especially important
while the boat is underway.
The windlass manufacturer provides an owner’s
manual with its product. It is extremely important
that you read the manual and become familiar
with the proper care and operation of the wind-
lass. Refer to the Operation chapter for tips on
anchoring your boat.

A WINDLASS MUST BE USED WITH CARE. IT IS EXTREMELY
IMPORTANT THAT YOU READ THE WINDLESS OWNER’S
MANUAL AND BECOME FAMILIAR WITH THE SAFETY

WINDLASS BEFORE USING IT WITH YOUR BOAT. ALWAYS
ENSURE THAT LIMBS, FINGERS, HAIR AND CLOTHING ARE
KEPT CLEAR OF THE WINDLASS AND ANCHOR LINE DURING
OPERATION.
WARNING
A PARTIALLY LOWERED AND LOOSE ANCHOR CAN CAUSE
CONSIDERABLE DAMAGE TO THE HULL. DO NOT USE A
WINDLASS AS A SOLE MEANS OF SECURING AN ANCHOR
IN THE BOW PULPIT. ALWAYS SECURE THE ANCHOR WITH
THE CHAIN BINDER BEFORE OPERATING YOUR BOAT.
Bow Ladder (Optional)
A telescoping boarding ladder could be installed in
the windlass recess below the bow hatch. To use
the ladder, make sure the engines are off and the
boat is securely moored or anchored with the lines
at the bow clear of the hatch and ladder.
Open the bow hatch and rotate the ladder out of
the rope locker. Make sure the bracket rotates
with the ladder to the deployed position in the
bow recesses, extending the ladder forward of
the rubrail. Release the strap securing the ladder
steps and stow it in a safe place. Then pull the
bottom step to extend the ladder. Close and se-
curely latch the bow hatch before using the ladder.
The ladder must be retracted and folded into the
windlass recess with the hatch closed and latched
before starting the engine. Make sure the steps
are secured in the retracted position with the
strap.
