CHOOSING THE APPROPRIATE EQUIPMENT
Respirators reduce but do not eliminate all exposure to the hazardous atmo-
sphere. Some respirators are more effective than others at reducing exposure
depending on the nature and the concentration of the contaminant in the
hazardous atmosphere. When choosing a respirator, the respiratory protec-
tion program under which this respirator is to be used must determine the
appropriate level of protection that the respirator is expected to provide.
Use
of inappropriate RESPIRATOR equipment for the work environment may
result in exposure to the hazardous atmosphere which may cause seri-
ous injury or death.
No material is perfectly resistant to all chemical substances. It is the re-
sponsibility of the respiratory protection program under which this equipment
is used to decide on a case by case basis the appropriateness, duration of
use, and re-use of the PROFLOW FH22 Hood.
The polyester coated synthetic fabric material used in the construction of
the PROFLOW FH22 Hood and Breathing Tube Cover is considered suit-
able for providing limited protection from the following:

SCOTT PROFLOW FH22 PAPR Hoods must only be selected by persons
trained in evaluating the specific end-use conditions and in selecting the
appropriate chemical protective equipment. Consult a qualified industrial
hygienist for advice on the use of the PROFLOW FH22 PAPR Hood in your
work environment. Take into consideration that seams and closures often
have shorter breakthrough times and higher chemical permeation rates than
the fabric alone.
Anyone intending to use chemical protective equipment must first verify that
the equipment is suitable for the intended use as part of a complete respira-
tory protection program.
This hood and the breathing tube cover are intended only for a single use
and disposal after use, for example, after a single shift of work. Choosing to
clean and re-use this equipment is at the discretion and risk of the user and
the respiratory protection program.
SCOTT recommends that after use and before disposal, inspect the hood
material for signs of permeation or damage caused by chemical exposure. If
there is evidence of permeation:
