SEL-734W

Overview

The SEL-734W is a capacitor bank controller that controls the operation of
capacitor bank switches on three-phase power systems. The SEL-734W comes
with a pre-installed template that supports the following automatic control strategies:

Voltage control

➤

kVAR control

➤

Current control

➤

Time-based control

➤

Power factor control

The controller also supports the following features:

➤

Separate close and open delay timers for different control strategies

➤

Logic to detect long-term unstable conditions (known as hunting)
and disable automatic control

➤

Adaptive voltage and kVAR processing to adjust capacitor switching
thresholds and minimize hunting

➤

Delay between operations to minimize the chance of short-term hunting

➤

DNP3 communications for remote SCADA control and monitoring

➤

Manual control of the capacitor banks

➤

Front-panel displays and LEDs that indicate the state of the controller

➤

Front-panel configuration

➤

Integrated 15 Vdc power supply for accessories (optional)

QuickSet SEL-5030 Software design templates configure the

SEL-734W for capacitor bank control. Design templates are customized software
interfaces that allow you to configure the threshold, time-delay, alarms, warning,
and communications settings for capacitor bank control. The enclosure connects
to a 120 Vac control power transformer (CPT) and a three-phase capacitor bank
switch. The SEL-734W uses SEL-WCS devices to measure current quantities.
All connections to the primary equipment are made through socket stabs located
on the back of the enclosure.
