Chapter 4: Installation and Hot
Swap Procedures
This chapter describes how to install or remove the Telum GE-QT on an AdvancedTCA or
proprietary shelf that contains AMC bays. The Telum GE-QT module is a single-wide, full-height
AMC module that complies with PICMG 3.0 platform specification for a telecommunication shelf.
Telum GE-QT communicates with the shelf through a packet-based serial interface, which features
up to four lanes of high-speed I/O (2.5 Gbit/sec each).
Installation Precautions
Before working with any SBS Technologies, Inc. component, take the necessary precautions to
prevent electrostatic discharge (ESD), which can damage the module. Use the following
precautions to prevent ESD when removing the module from the antistatic bag:
C A U T I O N
Always ground yourself before touching the module. You can ground
yourself by either touching a grounded unpainted metal surface, such
as a computer chassis, or by using an ESD-protective wrist strap from
your wrist to a bare, unpainted metal section of the chassis. This
prevents electrostatic discharge from damaging the module.
Always keep the module in its static-protective envelope or packaging
if it is not installed in the system.
Always hold the module by its faceplate or edges. Avoid touching the
components or connections on the module.
