10. Maintenance.
10.1. Basic maintenance guide.
Batteries and capacitors must be replaced at the end of their ser-
vice life.
Dangerous voltages, even with respect to elements dis-
connected from the mains, as well as hot or very hot metal
parts (heat sinks) can be found inside rectifier cabinets.
Direct contact can cause electrocution and burns. All operations,
except the replacement of fuses located in the external discon-
nectors, must only be carried out by authorised technical per-
sonnel.
When changing a fuse, always replace it with another of
the same type, format and size.
10.1.1. Batteries.
The service life of the batteries greatly depends on the ambient
temperature and other factors such as the number of charges
and discharges, as well as their depth.
The estimated average life is 20 years, provided that the ambient
temperature is controlled between 10 and 20ºC.
There is a risk of fire and/or explosion if the wrong type or
number of batteries is used. Do not dispose of batteries in
fire: they may explode. Do not open or break apart batteries: any
electrolyte discharged can be harmful to the skin and eyes, and
highly polluting to the environment. It can be toxic.
10.1.2. Capacitors.
The service life of the capacitors in the DC bus and those used
for input and output filtering depends on use and environmental
conditions. Preventative replacement by authorised technical
personnel is recommended.
