Assembling the deflector plate
To optimally distribute heat for barbecuing to the main body’s top plate, a deflector plate is included. If
the SURPRISE is not intended to be used for barbecuing, we recommend not installing the plate. This
will help keeping the glass from becoming dirty.
The deflector plate can be installed and removed at any time. The best time to install it, however, is
during the initial set-up of the SURPRISE, when it is easier to access.
For easier assembly and disassembly, the screws must first
be screwed into the main body.
The plate can then be set on top, with the heads of the
screws protruding through the enlarged holes in the slots.
Then turn the plate and tighten the screws down in the
narrowed end of the slots.
If the plate is no longer to be dismantled, the slots without the enlargements for the screwheads can
also be used for fastening. To do this, the plate must first be placed on top and the screws inserted from
above, as usual. This helps holding the plate better in place.
Surface treatment:
To prevent the SURPRISE’s Corten steel from corrosion, you should oil
the main body before assembly or paint it with heat-resistant paint.
