V-SynthXT
UPDATING THE SYSTEM
Required items
Windows PC (XP/2000/Me) (XP Recomended),which has installed driver.
USB Cable
UPDATE CD-ROM(#17041670),or check the Roland Service Net to get the
update data.
Don’t power off on the updating and programs or data are broken.
Procedure
1.
Hold down [1] button of ten-key (on the left side of front panel), and
power on the V-Synth XT.
“*** Program Updater ***” is shown on screen.
2.
Press [2] button of ten-key, “*** Update by USB Mass Storage ***” is
shown on screen.
3.
Use a USB cable to connect the V-Synth XT and the PC.
4.
Verify that a new removable drive on the desktop of PC (in Windows,
this will be in My Computer).
USB Indicator has been turned off.
5.
Copy the program ROM file (V-Synth.rom) and the internal imagefile (V-
SynthXTDiskImage.bin) from the CD-ROM into the drive that appeared.
If you want to update only the program, copy only “V-SynthXT.rom”
;if you want to update only the WAVE/PATCH data, copy “V-
SynthXTDiskImage.bin”.
After copying the data, operate your PC as described in “Disconnecting
the USB connection”(P.140) and “Closing the USB storage screen” of the
owner’s manual, and the disconnect the USB cable fron the V-Synth XT.
6.
Press [8] button of ten-key.

The display will indicate “Updating Internal Disk”, and the update will
be executed.
The character on the screen changes according to the status while
updating it.

When the update has been sucessfully completed, a beep will sound and
the display will indicate “Complete! Please Power Off”.
Turn off the power of V-Synth XT.
If the update was not successful, the display will indicate “ERROR!”.
If the above steps did not result in a successful update, please check the
following two points.
Are the V-Synth XT and PC correctly connected by a USB cable?
Were thw correct files copied to the drive that apeared on the PC
desktop?
Please exchange the main board Assy when you still can not update
correctly.
9.
Turn off and on to reboot the V-Synth XT and verifying the new version
program, then check the version number if you need.
TEST MODE
If the main board aseembly is replaced when the V-Synth/XT serviced at a
service station, you must write the Serial ID number into the main board
assembly before executing the test mode.

The PC is necessary to install the USB-MIDI driver for V-Synth XT.
UsbIdSet.exe (An application for writing the USB serial ID. Same as used for te
UM-880.)(#17041153)
Touch pen (#00900545 / included with PMA-5)
Headphones
Oscilloscope
Noise meter
MIDI cable (1 pc.)
Audio cables (4 pcs.)
Coaxial Cables (2 pcs.)
Optical Cables (2 pcs.)
Speakers
Use speakers such as the MA-10D that has analpg and digital inputs (optical/
coaxial 44.1KHz/48KHz/96KHz)
A device with digital output (optical/coaxial 44.1KHz/48KHz/96KHz)
For instance, USB Audio Interface.
Preparations for testing
If you will be writing the USB serial ID in the [14: USB MIDI/Audio Test] item,
copy the entire “UsbIdSet” folder into the hard disk of your computer,
and start up the executable file (UsbIdSet.exe) found within this folder.
Make speaker connections etc. as follows.
