TROUBLESHOOTING - CONTINUED
Problem
Probable Cause
Solution
3. Leveler runs continuously when
a. ARTD cam is out of adjustment
a. Readjust ARTD cam.
power is turned on.
or damaged.
b. The ARTD system has failed.
b. Verify that ARTD and restrictor limit
switches are functional.
Verify that ARTD actuator assembly is
functional.
c. The pushbutton and or contact
c. Replace pushbutton and/or contact block.
block does not function properly.
4. Lip extends slowly and/or does not
a. Debris on lip hinge.
a. Remove dirt, debris and corrosion from
fully extend.
the lip hinge spools.
b. Lack of lubrication.
b. Without grease fittings – Lubricate the
hinge spools with SAE30 oil.
With grease fittings – Lubricate the
hinge spools with moly based grease.
c. Hydraulic fluid level is low.
c. Check oil level when the unit is held
open with the with maint. support.
See Figure 19. Refill if necessary. Do
not exceed maximum oil level
indicated by the “Oil Level” decal on
the reservoir.
d. System leak.
d. Check hoses, fittings, valves and
power unit for leaks.
e. Readjust the sequence valve.
e. Adjustable sequence valve pressure
has been set to high.
f. Adjustable system relief valve
f. Readjust until the relief pressure is
pressure is set too low. 1200 psi.
g. Debris in the hydraulic system.
g. Drain the oil from the power unit,
hoses and cylinders. Replace with
fresh oil. Verify tank suction filter in the
tank is not clogged.
h. ARTD actuator failure.
h. Verify that the ARTD actuator is
functioning properly.
i. Lip cylinder failure.
i. Replace lip cylinder.
5. Lip remains fully or partially
a. Debris in lip hinge.
a. Remove dirt, debris and corrosion
extended.
from lip hinge spools.
b. Lack of lubrication.
b.
Without grease fittings – Lubricate the
hinge spools with SAE30 oil.
With grease fittings – Lubricate the
hinge spools with moly based grease.
c. Debris in the hydraulic system.
c. Consult factory.
d. Valve failures on power unit.
d. Inspect, test and replace the
adjustable sequence valve if
necessary. Consult factory for
additional valve testing.
e. ARTD actuator failure.
e. Verify that the ARTD actuator is
functioning properly.
f. Lip cylinder failure.
f. Replace lip cylinder.
When checking for a hydraulic
system leak, first look for the wet
hoses or fittings without the power
unit running. Once the suspected
leak has been located, have an
assistant power-up the pump. MOVE
A PIECE OF CARDBOARD AROUND
THE SUSPECTED LEAK TO LOCATE
THE FAULTY PART. DO NOT USE
YOUR HAND. MAKE SURE TO KEEP
HANDS, ARMS AND FACE AWAY
FROM THE AREA OF THE
SUSPECTED LEAK. High pressure
hydraulic fluid can be an invisible
spray that will penetrate flesh.
