Example: <STX>123456<CR> where <STX> is the start of the text

character, and <CR> is a carriage return character, the “6” is in the 6th

position, not the 7th.

the string format; Formats such as Toledo 8142 end in CR<AA> where

<AA> is a 2-byte checksum, the checksum must not be counted when

calculating the format length
