12.3 Connecting a USB console port for Juniper Devices
Some Juniper devices have two console ports: an RJ-45 console port and a Mini-USB Type-B console
port. You can configure and manage the device using either port. To connect to the device using a
passive port, you must first configure the port as active and then reboot the device.
When a console port is active, it can display all the early boot and low-level message output. You
can access the device through this port in the debugger prompt. On some devices, only one console
port is active at a time and the console input is active only on that port.
The RJ-45 console port is the active port by default. To activate the Mini-USB Type-B console port
plug in the mini-USB cable into the port labeled: console on the Juniper. Make sure the USB Power
setting on the U-router is set to: power on.
Figure 20: USB console connection to a Juniper device
When the USB-B port of the U-router NGW is connected to a Juniper device you will have to set the
communication parameters of the U-router NGW on the
Settings
page of the WEB UI. The console
port of the remote device is then accessible through the WEB UI of the U-router NGW.
In order to communicate over the USB-B port to a Juniper connected device do the following:
•
Set the
Terminal Interface
to
/dev/ttyJuniper
•
Set the
Terminal Speed
to
9600
•
Set
USB Power
to
power on
The parameter
Console Mode
is not active in this configuration.
