Replacing the rechargeable battery
Rechargeable batteries have a limited life span. Replace the rechargeable
batteries when the illumination period is only very short despite sufficient
sunlight (or at least every 2 years).
• Turn the solar hanging light around so that the lid faces down.
• Hold the lid with one hand and turn the part with the transparent panes a bit to the
right (clockwise) to remove it.
• Open the lids of both rechargeable battery compartments, they click into place to
close.
• You can now simply remove both rechargeable NiMH batteries from the recharge
-
able battery compartments.
• Replace the NiMH rechargeable batteries with 5 identical rechargeable batteries
(see „Technical Data“). Only use two identical rechargeable batteries from the
same manufacturer.
When inserting rechargeable batteries, observe correct polarity (po and ne
-
gative/-, see markings in the rechargeable battery compartment and on the rechar
-
geable batteries).
You may also use rechargeable batteries of higher capacity.
• Close both rechargeable battery compartments by clicking the lids into place.
• Replace the part with the transparent panes in the lid of the solar hanging light and
lock it into place by turning it slightly to the left (counter clockwise).
Maintenance and cleaning
The product is maintenance-free part from occasionally replacing the rechargeable
battery. The LED illuminant used is permanently installed and non-replaceable.
Maintenance or repairs may be carried out by a professional only.
Clean the exterior of the product using a clean, soft, dry cloth only. Never use any
aggressive cleaning agents or chemical solutions as they may cause damage to the
housing or the product to malfunction.
Do not apply too much pressure to the transparent panes to prevent scratching.
You should clean the solar cells at least once a year. Dust and dirt reduce the
charging current and thus light ON time.
Disposal
a) General
Do not dispose of the product with your household waste.
Please dispose of the device at the end of its service life in accordance with
legal regulations; e.g. return the device to a public collection point.
Remove the rechargeable batteries from the solar hanging light and dispose
of them separately.
b) Disposing of used rechargeable batteries
As the end user, you are legally bound to return all used rechargeable batteries; dispo
-
sing of used rechargeable batteries with household waste is prohibited.
Contaminated rechargeable batteries are labelled with this symbol to indi-
cate that disposal in the domestic waste is forbidden.
The designations for the heavy metals involved are: Cd = Cadmium, Hg =
Mercury, Pb = Lead.
You can dispose of your used rechargeable batteries free of charge at collection points
in your community, at our stores and everywhere rechargeable batteries are sold!
You thus fulfil your statutory obligations and contribute to the protection of the envi-
ronment.
Troubleshooting
The solar hanging light LED does not light up.
• The rechargeable batteries are empty (no sunlight on the solar cells for a longer
period of time, e.g. during bad weather conditions or wintertime).
• The rechargeable batteries are empty upon first use. Wait for one or two sunny days
so there is enough natural light to sufficiently charge the rechargeable batteries.
• The rechargeable batteries are not properly installed.
• The solar hanging light is not turned on. Flip the switch beneath the lid to „ON“.
• The rechargeable batteries only charge when the solar hanging light is turned on
(the switch beneath the lid must be at „ON“).
The solar hanging light lights up only briefly.
• The rechargeable batteries are empty (no sunlight on the solar cells for a longer
period of time, e.g. during bad weather conditions or wintertime).
• Make sure that the solar hanging light is set up at a suitable location and is not
obstructed e.g. by objects or plants.
We recommend setting up the product somewhere where the solar cells receive at
least 4 hours of sunlight daily.
• The rechargeable batteries only charge when the solar hanging light is turned on
(the switch beneath the lid must be at „ON“).
• The rechargeable batteries are exhausted and do not provide any power. Replace
the rechargeable batteries with new ones.
You can also attempt to „freshen up“ the rechargeable batteries by charging and
discharging them a few times using a commercially available rechargeable battery
charger for NiMH round cell rechargeable batteries. High quality charging devices
offer such a function.
