5. Technical Description
Please refer to the schematic diagram drawing number CS413 in Section 5.1
of this manual.
5.1 Ethernet Port
The Ethernet port is an integral part of IC1. IC1 contains the CPU, memory,
transformers, UART and firmware all within the one package that provides
Ethernet & IP communications.
5.2 Reset
IC2 monitors the 3.3V supply voltage to IC1 and if the voltage is outside of
operating limits, pin 3 of IC1 is held low, holding IC1’s CPU in a reset state.
5.3 Power Supply
The T34 option board derives its 12 volt DC power supply from the MX800
digital I/O board via pin 10 of header SKI. This supply is fed through
filtering made up by C1, L1 and C14 before being fed into a switch mode
power supply consisting of IC2, TR1 and associated components. The output
of this supply is 3.3volts DC and it supplies all active parts on the T34 board.
5.4 Serial Drive
IC1 is interfaced to the MX800 digital I/O board via IC3. IC3 converts and
inverts the 0 to 3.3 volt CMOS logic levels on the IC1 side to st/- 12
volt RS232 levels on the MX800 digital I/O board side of the interface.
Data from the MX800 digital I/O board is fed into IC3 data input as well as
the data output pin of CN4. Data to the MX800 digital I/O board is diode
OR-ed through D2 so that data from either the T34 option board or the
external serial port is received by the MX800.
5.5 SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol)
The standard e-mail protocol on the Internet and part of the TCP/IP protocol
suite, as defined by IETF RFC 2821. SMTP defines the message format and
the message transfer agent (MTA), which stores and forwards the mail. It is
limited in its ability to queue messages at the receiving end, hence it is
usually used with one of two other protocols, POP3 or IMAP. Therefore,
typically SMTP is used for sending e-mail and either POP3 or IMAP is used
for receiving e-mail.
