2. Disconnect electric power to the pump or control box before
installing or servicing this tank or water system.
3. Completely relieve pressure from the water system before work-
ing on the water system. Open the faucet nearest the tank and
allow the water to drain until the tank is empty.
4. Carefully remove the Red Lion pressure tank from its carton.
5. Remove the plastic cap on the air valve of the new system.
6. Check the tank pre-charge with a tire gauge. It should be
equal to or 2 PSI below the pressure switch cut-in setting (the
pressure at which the pump will start). All jet pumps from Red
Lion include a pressure switch with a cut-in setting of 30 PSI.
Therefore the pre-charge pressure should be adjusted to 28
PSI. Use a tire pump or air compressor to charge the tank, if
necessary. Most pressure switches have the setting marked
under their covers. If you can not determine the setting this way,
pressurize the switch and note the cut-in setting. See Table 1 for
recommended pre-charge pressure settings.
7. Replace and tighten the plastic cap on the air valve.
8. Place the tank where it is to be installed. Be sure to protect
the tank, piping, and all system components from freezing
temperatures.
9. If flooring is uneven, level as necessary.
10. Make pipe connections as necessary, in accordance with local
or state plumbing codes. Ensure the pipe size from the tank to
the house is the same as the pipe size from the pump to the
tank. Refer to Figure 1 for typical installations.
TECHNICAL CHARACTERISTICS
A label is applied to each pressure tank showing important techni-
cal characteristics of the tank: volume, maximum operating tem-
perature, maximum allowed pressure, and pre-charge pressure.
Always operate your pressure tank within the limits shown on this
label. Do not remove or modify this label.

MAINTENANCE
Proper performance of this tank depends on a correct pre-charge of
air. When there is no water in the tank, the air pre-charge should be
2 PSI below the cut-in pressure setting of the pump pressure switch.
Check the tank at least once a year to ensure that the pre-charge
pressure is within ±2% of that stated on the identification label:
1. Disconnect power to the pump.
2. Open the faucet nearest to the tank and drain the tank until it is
empty. Close the faucet.
3. Check the pre-charge pressure with a standard tire gauge.
4. If necessary, adjust the pre-charge pressure to 2 PSI below
pump switch cut-in pressure.
5. Restore power to the pump.
To protect the outside of the tank, periodically clean it using only
soap and water.
WARNING:
Do not remove the tank from the water system without
completely relieving the pressure and draining the water.
