Introduction
Congratulations on the purchase of your Rebelcell battery (with battery charger and accessories where
applicable). The battery has been developed for use in angling (propulsion of trolling engine, depth sounder,
waterside energy needs).
You have purchased one of the two models below:
12V50 li-ion battery (648 Wh)
with or without a matching battery charger.
12V100 li-ion battery (1,29 kWh)
with or without a matching battery charger.
The description below applies to both models.
Safety precautions and warnings
Your Rebelcell li-ion battery (hereafter
battery
) has been engineered with a safe and long user life in mind. It is
important to thoroughly review this instruction and follow the safety precautions. Not doing so may invalidate
the warranty and result in the malfunctioning of your battery and further damage.
•
Only use the battery if your electric outboard is suitable for an input voltage up to 16.8V.
•
Use cables of sufficient thickness and (ANEN) plug connectors (such as the Quick Connect E-Motor cable)
to connect your outboard to the battery for safe use. Never use crocodile clamps to connect your outboard
to the battery! These connections are not safe and can result in heat development with damage to your
outboard or battery.
•
Use a suitable fuse between the battery and the electric motor to protect both.
•
Avoid direct contact of your hands with both battery terminals. Danger of electric shock!
•
Avoid reversing the + and – battery terminals when connecting the battery. This can lead to irreversible
damage to your battery!
•
Only use isolated tools when installing your battery. And keep metal objects, such as jewelry, away from
the battery.
•
Your battery is ‘waterproof’ according to the IP54 standard. To avoid issues we recommend placing the
battery in a waterproof battery container and/or place on a slightly elevated place to ensure that the battery
is never partly or fully immersed in water on the bottom of a dinghy. Water damage is explicitly excluded
from the warranty.
•
Fix your battery (e.g. with fixation bands) on a vibration free surface to ensure that sliding is impossible.
•
When used outside the permitted standards (e.g. high load) your battery will automatically turn off. No
power will be available till the battery can operate within standards.
•
Avoid damaging the battery for instance by dropping it. In case of external damage do not use your battery
but have Rebelcell check for proper and safe operation.
•
Place the battery in the coolest environment possible. Do not expose the battery to sources of direct heat
such as (open) fire, heating or exposure to direct sunlight for extended periods of time.
•
The battery is classified as dangerous goods for transportation purposes (ADR Class 9). Review the
Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) on our website for more information.
•
Your battery may only be opened by Rebelcell for repairs.
Installation and Use
•
The battery can handle a continuous load of 50A (for both the 12V50 and the 12V100 battery) and a 75A
peak load (for both the 12V50 and the 12V100 battery) for 10 seconds.
•
Your battery is equipped with screw battery terminals in size M8. Make sure if you connect your electric
outboard or other device to the battery to use M8 tongue connectors.
•
It is possible to connect two batteries together in parallel for higher capacity (e.g. 2 x parallel 12V50 =
12V100Ah). Make sure to use cables of sufficient thickness! When connecting batteries in parallel it is
important that all batteries are exactly the same type, of the same age and have the same charging status.
It is not possible to connect batteries in series!
•
Long-term use in high temperatures (> 40 ° C) has a negative influence on service life. At a temperature of
55 ° C, the battery will shut itself down until a normal operating temperature is reached.
•
Your battery has been designed as a power source for electric boating and use in angling (trolling engine,
depth sounders). but is explicitly
NOT
suitable to use as a starter battery for internal combustion engines
(like in cars and gasoline powered outboards).
