A total of 64Kb of RAM is available in the standard message-based interface. The lower
4Kb is dedicated system RAM, and is used by the interface for maintaining the operation
of the VXlbus interface and user support routines.
The user global area starts at a fixed location. T h i s space is intended for users who
download code into the breadboard. The default size of the user "global" area is 4Kb, but
its total size is programmable. This address space will always begin at 401000. The user
may place global variables in this area and/or load application specific code for later
execution.
The I/O queues are established during power-up initialization. They are positioned above
the user global area. The user can specify the size of the queues. The size is stated in
the manual.
The heap is memory that can be allocated as requested. I t floats above the I/O queue
area. The heap grows up toward the stack area. The default size of the system heap is
4Kb by the total size programmable.
The stack area goes below the debugger area. I t grows down toward the heap. The
default size is also 4Kb, but the total heap size is programmable. The total message based
software requires 8Kb of the stack area.
This means with a standard configuration, the user has over 48 Kb of RAM available.
