It would be easy to say there's no comparison to DLTtape system tech-
nology – it’s the best! But, nothing is that simple. Sure, DLTtape prod-
ucts are fast, reliable, and offer industry-leading capacity and speed.
Depending on your application, DLTtape technology may very well be
your best choice in a tape backup system. However, to make the right
choice, you need to know more about the leading backup options.

In this chapter, we will take a closer look at quarter-inch tape (QIC),
4mm DAT (digital audio tape), 8mm tape and optical disk. We'll
compare these backup systems to the DLTtape system (see Figure
11-1) in order to help you select the system that best meets your needs.
