Section 3 Fuel System

To fill the fuel tank at a marina, follow this
procedure:
1. Turn all switches to "OFF."
2. Secure boat.
3. Remove passengers from boat.
4. Extinguish all flame producing items.
5. Open fuel fill(s) by turning counterclock-
wise.
6. Put nozzle in the fuel fill opening.
7. The fuel delivery system will shut off
when the tank is filled to the proper
capacity.
8. Remove the nozzle.
9. Install and tighten fuel cap until it clicks.
10. Check the fuel compartment and below
the deck for fuel odors. If you smell fuel,
DO NOT start engines.
3.5 Fuel System Maintenance
Spray the valves, fuel tank gauge sender
and ground connections with a metal protec-
tor such as silicon spray.
Frequently inspect and lubricate the fuel fill
cap o-ring seals with petroleum jelly or sili-
cone grease. The o-ring seal prevents water
from entering the fuel system through the
fuel-fill cap. Replace immediately if any
damage or deterioration is apparent.
The age of gasoline can affect engine per-
formance. Chemical changes occur as the
gasoline ages that can cause deposits and
varnish the fuel system, as well as reduce
the octane rating of the fuel. Severely
degraded fuel can damage the engine, fuel
tank, and lines. Therefore, if you do not run
your boat enough to require at least one full
tank of fresh fuel a month, add a fuel stabi-
lizer to the gasoline to prevent fuel degrada-
tion.

WARNING
Static electricity may generate while
fueling and can cause a fire or explo-
sion. To prevent static sparks while
filling the tank, make sure the nozzle
is in contact with the fuel opening.

Estimate how much fuel you need and
avoid over filling the tank.

WARNING
Spilled fuel can cause a fire or an
explosion. Make sure you do not spill
any fuel. If you spill a small amount of
fuel on the fiberglass, use a cloth to
remove the fuel and properly dispose
of the contaminated cloth. Exercise
extreme caution if spilled on the
water. Fuel floats on the surface of the
water and can ignite. Immediately
evacuate the area and notify the
marina and the proper officials if a
water spill occurs.

DANGER
To reduce the risk of a fire and/or
explosion, do not start the engine(s)
when fuel fumes are present. Fuel
fumes are dangerous and harmful to
your health. Investigate all gasoline
odors immediately.

WARNING
Periodically inspect all fuel filters,
primer bulbs, connections, clamps
and hoses for leakage and damage or
deterioration. Replace as necessary.

WARNING
After changing the filter element,
prime the fuel system and check all fit-
tings for leaks before and after start-
ing the engines.
