Protégé System Controller Installation Manual
BIOS OPERATION
Introduction
The Protégé System Controller uses advanced technology flash memory file systems to store
and operate the system application. As advances are made in the Protégé System Controller
it is possible to upgrade your system controller to the most recent release of application
firmware using the BIOS system that is loaded.
The BIOS System also incorporates an easy to operate menu structure that allows verification
of hardware components and version information allowing a comprehensive level of testing to
be performed.
Entering BIOS Operation
Entering the BIOS is achieved by enabling switch two on the configuration switch and then
performing a power down of the system controller. You must also select the type of
communication link that you want to establish with the system controller for BIOS operations.
This can be either Serial (Using the Module Network Interface) or Ethernet (Using the
ethernet communication port). Follow the procedures below to select the BIOS mode and
required communication format.
If you have chosen to connect via a serial interface, using the Module Network
Connection, you must disconnect the module network before proceeding with any
BIOS functions.
BIOS Serial Communication
Connection using the Module Network serial connection requires an ACC-485 Isolated RS485
Communication Interface or a similar RS-485 to Serial Conversion device. Connect a personal
computer to the ACC-485 and System Controller as shown below.
