Battery Maintenance
•
Do not place tools or metallic objects on top of bat-
tery.
•
Remove all jewelry, including watches, rings, and
other metal objects.
•
Use tools with insulated handles.
•
If electrolyte contacts skin, wash it off immediately
with water.
•
If electrolyte contacts eyes, thoroughly flush with
water immediately, and seek medical attention.
•
Wash down spilled electrolyte with an acid neutral-
izing agent. A common practice is to use a solution
of 454 g (1 lb) bicarbonate of soda to 3.8 L (1 gal)
of water. Add bicarbonate of soda solution until evi-
dence of reaction (foaming) has ceased. Flush
resulting liquid with water and dry area completely.

DO NOT smoke when near battery.
•
DO NOT cause flame or spark in battery area.
•
Discharge static electricity from body before touch-
ing battery by first touching a grounded metal sur-
face.
Battery should be regularly inspected per the
. Contact an IASD for assistance.
Proceed as follows to inspect battery:
1.
Perform “To turn the generator set OFF” in

Remove front panel and intake side panel as

for tightness and corrosion. Tighten and clean as
necessary.

4. (Unsealed batteries only):
Completely disconnect
battery. Check battery fluid level and, if necessary,
fill with distilled water only. DO NOT use tap water.
Have an IASD or a qualified service technician
check state of charge and condition.
5.
Connect battery cables and install intake side
panel when inspection is complete.
6.
Perform “To turn the generator set back ON” in
Generator Set Enable/Disable Procedure
