External control interface command reference
The Sentinel3 system supports full remote command emulation over either USB or LAN interfaces.
The remote command set allows configuration and control of the Sentinel 3 system. These commands
are enacted by the Sentinel 3 Controller, which configures transmitter heads via the receiver modules.

The commands and responses are text-based and not bound to any particular higher-level protocol.
Ethernet and USB-serial physical connections are provided with provision for GPIB connection using an
external adapter.

The existing Sentinel IIsc
command set is based on the product’s physical topology in which each
individual receiver module is paired with a single transmitter head with up to four RF inputs command
structure. As the Sentinel 3 product has a significantly different architecture it inherently disallows
backward-compatibility with the old command set. Where feasible, equivalent commands have been used
to ease the migration path for users; this equivalence is detailed later in this section.
5.1 Ethernet connection
Sentinel 3 is configured as a DHCP client. This requires that it is connected to a network supporting a
DHCP server. Typically this is provided by a LAN router. Alternatively, if no LAN is available, a local
router with a DHCP server can be used to connect Sentinel 3 to a remote controller PC. No uplink or
internet connection is required. Most low-cost SOHO routers support this functionality.
To create a peer-to-peer Ethernet connection, a cross-over Ethernet cable will be required if the PC host
does not support MDIX, otherwise any Ethernet cable may be used. The IP address on the host PC and
Sentinel 3 must be manually configured to share the same subnet, conventionally 192.168.0 for private
networks, but with different final IP numbers in the range 1-255. For example, IP addresses 192.168.0.10
and 192.168.0.20 would be suitable for the two devices. Where required, the subnet mask should be set
to 255.255.255.0. By default, Sentinel 3 uses port address 65000 to avoid clashing with other Ethernet
services.
