Towing
Information
e
Always observe the legal requirements relating
to the towing and tow starting of vehicles.
e
Vehicles should only be towed with great care.
Before driving, both drivers should familiarize
themselves with the special conditions that ap-
ply to tow-starting and towing.
e
In the event of a power failure or faults in the
electrical system, it may be necessary to connect
an external power supply in order to release the
electric parking brake or the steering column
lock.
Tow-starting and push-starting
the vehicle
NOTICE
Danger of significant damage to the vehicle and
transmission from tow-starting or push-starting ve-
hicles with PDK.
e
Never
tow-start or push-start the vehicles.
e
Do not attempt to tow the vehicle.
e
Call a roadside assistance or breakdown recovery
service.
e
Have the vehicle transported with both axles on a
recovery vehicle, transport truck or trailer.
NOTICE
Danger of significant damage to the vehicle.
e
Tie the vehicle down only at its wheels. Never
attach tension straps to the towing hook.
e
Vehicles with manual transmissions may only be
tow-started or push-started when the engine is
cold. If the engine is warm, unburnt fuel could
damage the catalytic converter.
If the battery is faulty or completely discharged, the
only way to start the engine is to replace the battery
or through emergency starting with jumper cables.

Towing the vehicle with manual
transmission

WARNING
Increased steering and
braking forces due to no
power assistance
There is no power steering on the towed vehicle
when the engine is not running. This means that
greater force is required for braking and steering.
e
Vehicles should only be towed with great care.
Special note for vehicles with all-wheel drive/Por-
sche Traction Management (PTM)
e
The vehicle must be transported on a car trans-
porter or trailer, or must have all
four wheels
on
the ground when being towed. It is
not
permis-
sible to lift the vehicle and tow it on one axle (ir-
respective of whether it is the front or rear axle).
Special note for vehicles with a faulty or fully dis-
charged battery
e
If the battery is faulty or completely discharged,
the only way to start the engine is to replace the
battery or through emergency starting with
jumper cables.

Information for towing a vehicle on all four wheels
e
Switch on the ignition so that the brake lights
and turn signals are working and the steering
wheel lock is not locked.
Information for towing a vehicle on one axle (rear-
wheel drive vehicles only)
e
Switch ignition off. Leave the vehicle key in the
ignition lock to prevent the steering wheel lock
from locking.
e
Make sure that the vehicle is sufficiently
illuminated.
Towing the vehicle
e
Vehicles with manual transmission: Move the
gear lever to neutral.
e
Do not exceed the maximum speed of
30 mph (50 km/h). A vehicle should not be
towed for more than 30 miles (50 km). If a ve-
hicle needs to be towed for longer distances, it
must be transported on a car transporter or
trailer.
