Emergency Starting
Depending on the model, country and equipment,
the vehicle features either a lead-acid battery with
AGM (Absorbent Glass Mat) technology or a 12-volt
lithium battery (LiFePO4).
On vehicles with lithium batteries, the battery is
marked with a sticker.
e
Never remove or deface stickers or render them
illegible.

acid battery
b
b
Vehicle with lead-acid battery.
If the battery is flat, the battery of another vehicle
can be used for starting and as an external power
supply with the help of jumper cables. Both batteries
must have a nominal voltage of 12 V. The capacity
(Ah) of the donor battery must not be substantially
less than that of the flat battery. The discharged
battery must be connected correctly to the vehicle's
electrical system.
>
Please see chapter "Battery" on page 69.
Repeated emergency starting under normal operat-
ing conditions may indicate that the battery is
damaged.
WARNING
Unsuitable jumper ca-
bles and following incor-
rect procedures
Starting the vehicle using unsuitable jumper cables
or following incorrect procedures can cause short
circuits. The short circuit can cause a fire.
e
Use only standard jumper cables with sufficient
cross section and completely insulated clamps.
Follow the instructions provided by the jumper
cable manufacturer.
e
The vehicles must not touch, otherwise current
may flow as soon as the positive terminals are
connected.
e
Ensure that conductive jewelry (e.g. rings,
chains, watch straps) do not come into contact
with live parts of the vehicle.
e
Never connect jumper cables directly to the bat-
tery. Only connect jumper cables to the emer-
gency starting terminals.
WARNING
Charging a frozen
battery
There is a risk of explosion and chemical burns when
charging a frozen battery.
e
It is important to thaw out a frozen battery be-
fore attaching jumper cables.
WARNING
Emergency starting a
frozen or damaged
battery
When emergency starting a frozen or damaged bat-
tery, there is a danger of explosion and chemical
burns.
e
Never
emergency start a frozen or damaged
battery.
CAUTION
Corrosive electrolyte
Lead-acid batteries contain highly corrosive battery
acid that can injure the skin and damage clothing on
contact.
e
Wear safety gloves and eye protection.
e
If battery acid gets into your eyes or on your skin:
rinse with cold water for several minutes.
