Troubleshooting: Writing CD-R and CD-RW Discs
Symptom Possible
Causes
Solutions
PlexWriter 24/10/40U
drive is connected to a
USB 1.1 port.
When the PlexWriter 24/10/40U is
connected to a USB 1.1 port, the
maximum write performance is 4X.
You must be connected to a USB
2.0 port for 24/10/40 performance.
Buffer underrun occurs.
Ensure the authoring software
supports BURN-Proof. If it
supports BURN-Proof, make sure
that BURN-Proof is enabled in the
application.
If your software does not support
BURN-Proof and you have buffer
underrun problems, reduce the
load on CPU resources. Some
ways to do this are:
Log off from the network.
Don’t use the mouse.
Disable the screensaver or
power save mode.
Exit all other applications.
Defective CD-R media.
CD-R media may be dirty,
scratched or damaged. Re-write
using a different piece of CD-R
media.
Using authoring
software other than
that bundled with
PlexWriter 24/10/40U.
Use the authoring software
provided with the PlexWriter.
If using other software, ensure that
PlexWriter 24/10/40U is supported
by the software. Contact the
software supplier to confirm.
Using poor quality
media.
Use the CD-R/RW media
recommended by Plextor.
Supported media lists can also be
found on the Plextor web site at
www.plextor.com.
Cannot write at
24X.
CD-ROM drive used
cannot read data fast
enough to record at
higher speeds, such as
24X or 20X.
If necessary, enable BURN-Proof
in the recording software.
If your software does not support
BURN-Proof, copy the data to the
computer’s hard disk, then record
from the hard disk to the
PlexWriter.
