ENGINE MAINTENANCE - 11

FLUSHING COOLING SYSTEM - SEA-WATER
SECTION

To prevent silt and/or salt build-up in the cooling system
(fresh or raw-water cooled), ﬂ ush the sea-water section
of the cooling system with fresh water at speciﬁ ed
intervals.

CAUTION

Do not operate the engine without water being
supplied to the sea-water pump. The sea-water
pump impeller may be damaged and subsequent
overheating damage may result.

CAUTION

Do not run the engine above 1500 RPM when
ﬂ ushing. Suction created by the sea-water pump
may collapse the ﬂ ushing hose, causing the engine
to overheat. Watch the temperature gauge while
ﬂ ushing to ensure the engine does not overheat.
