password
Use this command to specify the password for a line. Use the no form to remove
the password.
Syntax
password {0 | 7} password
no password
-{0 | 7} - 0 means plain password, 7 means encrypted password
- password - Character string that specifies the line password. The string can
contain any alphanumeric characters, besides spaces, and can contain up to
8 characters. The password is case sensitive.

Command Usage
> When a connection is started on a line with password protection, the system
prompts for the password. If you enter the correct password, the system
shows a prompt. You can use the password-thresh command to set the num-
ber of times a user can enter an incorrect password before the system termi-
nates the line connection and returns the terminal to the idle state.
> You can use an encrypted password to avoid exposing the password with the
“show running-config” command. To create an encrypted password, you must
use an appropriate encryption algorithm. Refer to the example on page 3-27.
