Cropping
When digitizing video at full size, there frequently are some image distortions
at the edges of the video, like black bars at the left or right edge, or wrong
colors at the very bottom. These distortions are part of the incoming video
signal and not a fault of the DC30 series board.
When the video is viewed on a TV set, these distortions are not visible because
they are hidden behind the frame.
They may become visible if you use certain video effects like picture-in-picture
or push transitions, or if you play the digitized video on the PC screen.
This problem can be solved by using the ‘TV cropping’ video format.
Select this for capturing all the video for a project, and also select exactly the
same resolution for the Premiere project settings.
(Refer also to the section “Movie capture/video format” beginning on page 59.)

Text
Titles created using the TitleDeko preset styles will always look very good
when applied to video and recorded to tape.
If you select the font, size, colors and smoothing for titles on your own, you
may end up with bad looking results on your TV set. Possible reasons are too
small text, too thin fonts, colors which do not look good on a TV set, or
problems caused by too sharp, unsmoothed edges.
Graphics and animations
The same as with text applies to graphics and animations that you may use
within video productions as well: Thin lines with high contrast may flicker,
some colors may look bad.
These are limitations of the NTSC and PAL analog video systems and of the
video recording standards and not caused by your DC30 series board.
You may have to change some colors or perform a smoothing on the images to
get good looking results.
Important: Always preview your work on a TV set if you plan to do a tape
production, as the PC screen display is not the same.
