Assignment of the M12 Ethernet connections
8-pos. M12 CAT6A sockets with X-coding are used as Ethernet connections. The supply
voltage for the PDs is provided on the wire pairs that carry the signal.
According to IEEE 802.3at, this is an “end point PSE” of which the ports provide alternative
A or B for phantom supply:

Alternative A: ports X1 to X7
–
Alternative B: port X8

Selecting suitable data cables for PoE(+) applications
A CAT5e cable with a minimum conductor cross section of 0.13 mm
2
(AWG 26) is required
to supply a PoE+ powered device with the maximum power of 25.5 W across the full dis-
tance of 100 m. Please only use shielded category CAT5e (or higher) cables.
2.3.5
Cascading several FL SWITCH 1708 M12 POE switches
For a direct line connection of type FL SWITCH 1708 M12 POE switches (referred to as cas-
cading in the following), it is absolutely necessary that the supplied PoE voltage potentials
of both PoE switches are decoupled on the common and connecting Ethernet data cable.
These voltage potentials can be isolated by using the previously mentioned PoE supply al-
ternatives according to IEEE 802.3at, i.e., alternatives A and B.
For this, two PoE switches to be cascaded must only be connected to one another using
port X1 to X7 connected to port X8 or vice versa. Connecting port X8 to port X8 or intercon-
necting ports X1 to X7, however, is not permitted.
A straight-through (1:1) Ethernet cable must be used for the direct line connection of the
PoE switches in any case.
